Course Description

This program trains engineers and diploma holders in lift planning, risk assessment, equipment selection, and supervisory responsibilities to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations on industrial sites.

What you'll learn in this Course?

The Lift Supervisor/Appointed Person Program trains personnel to safely plan and supervise lifting operations. It introduces lifting operations, terminology, roles and responsibilities, legal requirements, and safety culture. Lifting equipment and accessories cover cranes, lifting devices, slings, shackles, and lifting beams, including inspection criteria. Lift planning and risk assessment include lift plan preparation, risk assessment, JSA and method statements, and client approvals. Load calculation and rigging cover weight estimation, center of gravity, rigging configurations, and load charts. Supervision of lifting operations includes pre-lift briefings, signal coordination, execution monitoring, and stop-work authority. Special and critical lifts cover critical lift criteria, tandem lifts, confined space lifting, and engineered lifts. Safety management addresses dropped object prevention, exclusion zones, PPE enforcement, and emergency response. Inspection and compliance cover pre-use inspections, certification verification, third-party inspections, and compliance tracking. Communication and coordination include rigger and operator coordination, hand and radio signals, client interface, and work sequencing. Incident response and investigation involve lift incident response, investigation procedures, corrective actions, and lessons learned.

The module highlights how thoughtful planning can directly improve project quality, reduce accidents, and help projects finish on time and within budget.
