Course Description

This certification workshop trains personnel in lockout-tagout procedures, energy isolation verification, and authorized person responsibilities to prevent accidental equipment energization during maintenance activities.

What you'll learn in this Course?

The LOTO / Isolation Authorized Person Program trains personnel to safely perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) and isolation procedures. It introduces LOTO and isolation concepts, purpose, types of energy sources, legal requirements, and the role of the authorized person. Energy source identification covers electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, and chemical energies. Isolation devices and methods include valves, breakers, blinds, spades, locks, tags, and device verification. LOTO procedures and steps cover shutdown procedures, isolation application, locking and tagging, and zero energy verification. Authorization and permit interface involve permit-to-work linkage, authorization responsibilities, coordination with operations, and permit closure. Supervision of isolation activities includes isolation planning, execution supervision, multiple lock management, and shift handover. Testing and verification cover zero energy verification, stored energy release, test equipment usage, and re-verification. Safety management addresses unexpected energization hazards, PPE requirements, emergency response, and incident prevention. Restoration and de-isolation cover system restoration steps, lock removal authorization, post-work checks, and normal operation confirmation. Documentation and records include isolation registers, LOTO logs, permit records, and audit trails.

The module highlights how thoughtful planning can directly improve project quality, reduce accidents, and help projects finish on time and within budget.
