Course Description

This hands-on program trains fitters in valve disassembly, component replacement, reassembly, and field adjustment for industrial valve maintenance.

What you'll learn in this Course?

The Valve Maintenance Fitter program is designed to build essential practical skills for maintaining industrial valves safely and efficiently, starting with an understanding of valve fundamentals such as purpose, service conditions, common valve types, and the fitter?s role. The program develops competency in valve identification through nameplates and tagging, along with correct handling, storage, and damage prevention practices. Participants gain hands-on knowledge of systematic disassembly, proper tool usage, inspection and cleaning techniques, wear identification, and basic acceptance awareness, followed by core repair activities including lapping, seat replacement, stem repair, and packing installation. Best practices for reassembly, torque tightening, alignment checks, and error prevention are emphasized, along with testing awareness covering pressure testing basics, leak detection, functional checks, and test safety. Strong focus is placed on safety and permit compliance, including LOTO, pressure hazard awareness, PPE usage, and housekeeping, while reinforcing shutdown and workshop discipline, coordination with testing activities, time management, documentation basics, defect reporting, and traceability to ensure reliable and compliant valve maintenance operations.

The module highlights how thoughtful planning can directly improve project quality, reduce accidents, and help projects finish on time and within budget.
